Church of the Good Shepherd in Podhradie
Church of the Good Shepherd in Podhradí · Church of the Good Shepherd in Podhradí
A rare Lutheran church in the Aš region with a wooden Baroque interior associated with the tradition of no metal nails.
Story
A late Gothic sanctuary stood on the site of today's church in 1470–1490. After the Reformation, Podhradí became an important center of the Lutheran tradition of the Aš region, and the older church was fundamentally rebuilt in 1678–1682 into its current early Baroque form. The greatest peculiarity is the wooden interior. The altar and part of the choir equipment come from the workshop of Michael Zeitler from the Doubrava area, while the wooden vault was covered with paintings of angel choirs in 1711. The church is also associated with the tradition that wooden pins and pegs were used in the construction of the interior instead of metal nails. After post-war dilapidation, the building underwent a more extensive renovation in the 1990s.
