Story

Neuberg was founded at the beginning of the 13th century by the Neuberg family, and the first reliable written mention of the castle dates back to 1288. Its strategic location above the valley of the Ašský stream made it an important seat on the northern edge of the Aš region. The castle was damaged and renovated during the Middle Ages, but the decisive turning point came with a great fire in 1610. After the fire, the center of the estate moved to younger castles and the castle gradually disappeared. The most striking remnant was the approximately 22-meter-high cylindrical tower. In 2015–2018, it was supplemented with new staircases and since 2019 it has served as a lookout tower during the tourist season. The medieval defensive structure has thus acquired a new function without losing the character of a ruin.
